Volunteering -

‘As a young boy, Scouting gave me a confidence and camaraderie that is hard to find in modern life. Kids in the UK need a sense of belonging and community more than ever. I’m proud to be the UK Chief Scout in the world’s greatest youth movement. It is the biggest privilege I have ever had – more than serving in the SAS or climbing Everest.’ Bear Grylls

Did you know?

  • All Scout volunteers are unpaid and the majority have a full-time job and family
  • 44% of our leaders are female
  • Many volunteers help out on a flexible basis due to other commitments. You decide how much time you wish to give.
  • 27% of volunteers join because they are a parent of a young member
  • Volunteers don’t have to wear uniform
  • All leaders are covered by a comprehensive insurance policy while taking part in Scouting
  • All new leaders in Scouting go through a criminal records check to ensure they are fit to work with young people

Everyone has something to offer

You may think that you have no skills to offer Scouting, but the truth is that everyone has something to give. Something as simple as organising games or refreshments can give the leader more time to spend with the young people. Prior experience or a connection with Scouting is not necessary and we welcome people from different backgrounds.

Do you have any hobbies and interests that you could share? All you need to do is let us know your availability and how you would like to help and we will match this to available opportunities within your local area.

If you want to be a leader, you don’t have to know everything. You’ll be given full training on the job and you’ll learn new skills as you progress. Many of our adult volunteers say they are more confident in their everyday lives thanks to their involvement with Scouting.

Scouting isn’t just about working with young people there are many ways you can make a contribution, such as gardening, accounts, organising events and much more.

It’s exciting being involved with us. We believe that through the everyday adventure of Scouting, young people and adult volunteers regularly experience new challenges that enrich their lives.
